Do Girls Actually Watch And Enjoy Monster Monsume Anime?

Well, yes. I’m a bit late to the party but this girl [me] watched and enjoyed the raunchy fan service anime Monster Monsume, but there are certain things that made me uncomfortable.

Sooo, umm… yep! I just finished watching Okayado’s anime adaptation of Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常) and although I know I am not that target demographic for this show, I did enjoy it. However, I do believe the show went a bit too far at some points. Let’s address this.

Before we address the big fat elephant in the room (which is clearly boob!) how can ignore that ever-so catchy opening tune:

Monster! Monster! Mon Mon Mon Mon Monster!
Monster! Monster! Mon Mon Mon Mon Monster’s life!

I’m in love with that little tune; it’s cute and catchy and always gets me excited for the Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常) episode to follow. I was also very surprised how well drawn and animated this extremely smutty fan service anime was. Those artists paid attention to a lot of details… like a lot!

Now, I beg that the purists put their pitchforks away before I admit this, but I watched the dubbed version of Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常) on HIDIVE, and much to my surprise it was entirely uncut and uncensored. To be fair, there was way too much to censor.

However, the dubbed version didn’t disappoint. I think that the English cast did a stellar job with the voice acting especially considering how embarrassing and smutty the show can be. I often found myself wondering if Brittney Karbowski, the girl who voiced Papi in the English dub, or any of the other girls would proudly show this anime to their family friends, or even include it in their portfolio. It’s really raunchy. But they did great!

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room, and of course–like I said already–by elephant I mean boobs.

The show is only rated TV-MA, which I don’t even understand. Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常) could easily fetch NC-17 rating, and honestly I don’t know why it didn’t. Maybe that’s just the highest possible age rating allowed on these streaming services? I digress, let’s talk about boobs.

THE MONSTER GIRLS

I think there are only 6 main monster girls in the first season of Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常): Mila, Papi, Centorea Shianus, Suu, Meroune Lorelei, and Rachnera Aracnera. There are six more species of monster girls , but I really wouldn’t consider them as main characters in the anime.

The main protagonist, Kimohoto Kuruso, is supposed to serve as a host for the monster-human hybrid girls while they stay in Japan; kind of like they are exchange students. The monster girls, and Komohoto, must follow strict or they’ll be deported back to where ever they came from (I’m sure it’s mention, I just wasn’t paying attention).

Fortunately the main character is a charming gentleman who refuses to take advantage of his guests, even though they all suddenly fall head-over-heels for him and throw themselves at him at every opportunity. Kimohoto often finds himself in lewd and raunchy situation with each one of the anime monster girls. However, he fights off their sexy advances.

Kimohoto claims he resists temptation because he doesn’t want to get the anime monster girls in trouble and deported. They’re like family to him, he says. But maybe he just doesn’t want to engage in coital activities with an animal… just saying.

Anyway, suddenly out of nowhere a new law is introduced; humans can now marry anime monster girls and Kimohoto the (unlucky?) bastard is forced to pick between one of the many monsters he’s housing to be his wife. It’s apparently some kind of experiment and he can’t say no; it’s anime so I’m not going to question the plot too much.

Sadly, this is where Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常) falls flat for me. The relationship between the protagonist and his monster guests feels more like he’s their keeper and not their lover. Also, huge boobs aside, these girls have Earth animal parts. Not one thing about imagining him get it on with these girls is hot… but the over all worst thing is just how annoying these anime monster girls are.

No disrespect to the English cast who voiced these characters, they did amazing, but just their clinginess and entitlement is–wow–almost childlike.

I just could not see the hero settling down with any of his monster babes… Smith on the other hand? That sadistic government agent might make his wildest dreams come true.

MS. SMITH

Ms. Kuroko Smith, the Cultural Exchange Coordinator who just brings all these random anime monster girls to Kimohoto’s front door has a thing for him to, and she seems to be into some really weird voyeuristic/swinger stuff. I’m also pretty sure she’s running some kind of anime monster girl trafficking ring, really.

Ms. Smith ultimately is the one pulling the strings, and she has the power to arrange some random Japanese man’s marriage. She will make you marry your horse if you don’t comply to her rules… just saying.

It’s just a shame that, again I know this is anime, Kuroko Smith–the only human potential love interest–is not really a character you can emotionally invest in. At least the monster you pity the monster girls a little, Smith is just human and is attractive; that’s what she’s got going for her.

I am not going to spoil the ending of Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常) for anyone, because I honestly believe the show is worth watching… alone and in a sound proof room.

TOO HORNY!

The show goes way too far at times, it really does. Although there are touching moments of story here and there, I think there are more moment that will live you touching yourself, and–in all honesty–it’s too much.

I had to turn the volume down almost all the way because my flatmate was convinced I was watching something on the hub, if you know what I mean. There’s a lot of moaning and screaming. Even though there are no coital scenes in the anime, there are a lot of suggestive moments… a whole lot.

There’s one scene in particular with Papi that left me feeling very awkward. The scene is made even worse because of how young she’s depicted in the anime. I know she’s the same age as all the other monster girls, but even her mannerisms are very childlike.

During this “too horny” scene, Papi finds herself in a very compromising position trying to get her cell phone. I don’t want to go into detail (it’s in episode 6 on HIDIVE) but that scene is made even worse by creepy and horny old men standing around and filming it. It’s not nice.

Other than that, though, it’s a quality anime with an average story. I think this is the first time I’ve ever admitted to watching (and enjoying) Monster Monsume: Every Day Life with Monster Girls (モンスター娘のいる日常). I probably will never tell my parents, though.
